Resolution 19-02 

Patriot Day 

WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, America was suddenly and brutally attacked by terrorists, and; 

WHEREAS, thousands of innocent Americans were killed and injured as a result of these attacks, including the passengers and crew of the four aircraft, workers in the World Trade Center and in the Pentagon, rescue workers and bystanders, and; 

WHEREAS, these cowardly acts targeted symbols of American strength and success, and clearly were intended to intimidate the nation and weaken our resolve, and; 

WHEREAS, these horrific events affected all Americans.  With courage, America carried on with the regular activities of our lives.  Terrorism was not allowed to break the spirit of the American people. 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the governing board of County Commissioners of Bourbon County, Kansas, declares September 11, 2002 Patriot Day in honor of the individuals who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks against the United States that occurred on September 11, 2001. 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the governing board of County Commissioners of Bourbon County, Kansas, will display the flag of the United States at half-staff on Patriot Day in honor of the individuals who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks. 

BE IT STILL FURTHER RESOLVED, that the governing board of County Commissioners of Bourbon County, Kansas, recommends to its citizens they observe a moment of silence on Patriot Day in honor of the individuals who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks against the United States that occurred on Tuesday, September 11, 2001.
