2009 Spring Clean-Up Program
 
The City of Fort Scott will be providing a "Spring Clean-Up Program" during the month of May.  The City will be conducting a one time only pick-up program.  City crews will begin in the south end of Fort Scott and work their way north.  Once they have gone through a certain section of Fort Scott, they will not return for additional pick ups.
 
Residents south of 6th Street should put their discarded items at the curb beginning Wednesday, April 29th through Sunday, May 3rd.  No items should be placed at the curb after May 3rd.  City crews will then begin pick up on May 4th.
 
Residents north of 6th Street should put their discarded items at the curb beginning Wednesday, May 6th through Sunday, May 10th.  No items should b placed at the curb after May 10th.  City crews will then begin pick up on May 11th.
 
The following items will not be accepted:  whole trees, tree trunks or limbs over 8-inches in diameter, household trash, tires, batteries, commercial construction materials, hazardous chemicals, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and paint containers.
 
Only the following types of items will be collected:  white goods (this includes washers, dryers, dishwashers and hot water tanks), metal items, bulky household items such as furniture, TVs and brush and limbs if cut in 4-foot sections, properly bundled and stacked separately from the other items to be discarded.  Leaves will also be accepted but must be bagged and also stacked separately from the other items to be discarded.  City crews will be doing this pick up during the hours of 7:00 am and 3:30 pm Monday through Friday.

Approaching Personal Property Deadline
 
Judy Orton, Bourbon County Appraiser, reminds personal property owners and commercial property owners that their assessment forms are due in the office by Monday, March 16th.  Rendition forms were sent out earlier this year.  Anyone with trucks running over a 12M tag, boats, mobile homes, or golf carts are required to report these to our office, or a penalty will be applied.  Commercial personal property owners should provide a copy of their depreciation schedule or a complete listing of all machinery and equipment used in their business.  If an extension is needed, a written request needs to be filed before the March 16th deadline.
 
 
SCHOOL ELECTION
FORT SCOTT UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT #234
 
NOTICE is hereby given that an election for members of the Board of Education of Fort Scott Unified School District #234 will be conducted on the 7th day of April, 2009.  Positions #4, #5, and #6 will be elected.  All positions will be for four-year terms.
 
If there are more than three candidates filing for any one position there will be a Primary Election on Tuesday, March 3, 2009.  Candidates must be qualified electors of the district for which they are seeking office.
 
The place of filing, for all positions, is the County Clerk’s Office in the Bourbon County Courthouse.  The deadline for filing is:  Tuesday, January 27, 2009, NOON.
 
Filing may be by petition, signed by qualified electors of that district of:

UNIONTOWN UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT #235
 
NOTICE is hereby given that an election for members of the Board of Education of Uniontown Unified School District #235 will be conducted on the 7th day of April, 2009.  Positions #4, #5, and #6 will be elected.  All positions are for four-year terms.
 
If there are more than three candidates filing for any one position there will be a Primary Election on Tuesday, March 3, 2009.  Candidates must be qualified electors of the district for which they are seeking office.
 
The place of filing, for all positions, is the County Clerk’s Office in the Bourbon County Courthouse.  The deadline for filing is:  Tuesday, January 27, 2009, NOON.

FORT SCOTT COMMUNITY COLLEGE
 
NOTICE is hereby given that an election for three (3) positions on the Board of Trustees of the Fort Scott Community College, Bourbon County, State of Kansas, will be conducted on the 7th day of April, 2009.  All positions are for a four-year term.
 
If more than nine candidates file for the above positions, there will be a Primary Election on Tuesday, March 3, 2009.  Candidates must be qualified electors of Bourbon County.  The place of filing for Board of Trustees for Fort Scott Community College is the Bourbon County Clerk’s Office in the Courthouse.  The filing deadline is Tuesday, January 27, 2009, NOON.
 
Filing may be by petition, signed by not less than 50 qualified electors of Bourbon county or by filing with the County Election Officer a declaration of intent to be such a candidate and payment therewith of a filing fee in the amount of $5.00.
 
 
CITY OF FORT SCOTT
 
An election for Fort Scott, a First Class City, for three (3) City Commission Members will be held on the 7th day of April, 2009.  The place of filing is with the Fort Scott City Clerk, 1 E. 1st Street, Fort Scott, Kansas.
 
The filing deadline is Tuesday, January 27, 2009, NOON.  Two positions will be for four-year terms and one position will be for a two-year term.  Filing may be by petition, signed by not less than 16 qualified electors of Fort Scott or by a filing fee of $10.00.  In addition to either the petition or filing fee, a State filing fee of $35.00 is required.
 
If more than nine persons file for the above positions, there will be a Primary Election on Tuesday, March 3, 2009.  Candidates must be qualified electors of the City of Fort Scott.
 
 
THIRD CLASS CITIES OF
BRONSON, FULTON, REDFIELD AND UNIONTOWN
 
The cities of Bronson, Fulton, Redfield and Uniontown will conduct elections for the position of Mayor and five (5) Council Members on the 7th day of April, 2009.  The filing deadline is Tuesday, January 27, 2009, NOON.
 
Filing may be by filing fee of $5.00 or petition of qualified electors of that city according to the following schedule: 
                            
Bronson 10
Fulton 6
Redfield 2
Uniontown 11
 
The place for filing is the corresponding City Clerk’s Office or the Office of the County Clerk.  If more than three persons file for mayor and more than 15 persons file for the council, there will be a Primary Election, Tuesday, March 3, 2009.
 
 
THIRD CLASS CITY OF MAPLETON
 
The city of Mapleton will conduct an election for Mayor and two (2) Council Members on the 7th day of April, 2009.  The filing deadline is Tuesday, January 27, 2009, NOON.
 
Filing may be by filing fee of $5.00 or petition of 3 qualified electors of the city of Mapleton.
 
The place for filing is the Mapleton City Clerk’s Office or the Office of the County Clerk.  If more than three persons file for the office of Mayor and/or more than six persons file for city council, there will be a Primary Election, Tuesday, March 3, 2009.
 
All persons filing for any office must be a qualified elector of the corresponding city or district.
