Once they have gone through a certain section of Fort Scott they will not return for additional pick ups. Residents south of 6th Street should put their discarded items at the curb beginning Wednesday, May 4th through Sunday, May 8th. No items should be placed at the curb after May 8th. City crews will then begin pick up on May 9th. Residents north of 6th Street should put their discarded items at the curb beginning Wednesday, May 11th through Sunday, May 15th. Only the following types of items will be collected: white goods (this includes washers, dryers, dishwashers, and hot water tanks), metal items, bulky household items such as furniture, TVs, and brush and limbs if cut in 4-foot sections, properly bundled and stacked separately from the other items to be discarded. Leaves will also be accepted but must be bagged and also stacked separately from the other items to be discarded. City crews will be doing this pick up during the hours of 7:00 am and 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Any Bourbon County resident can take items to the Bourbon County Transfer Station on Saturday, May 14th and Saturday, May 21st, free of charge. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the dozens of men and women who helped fight the terrible fire that destroyed several historic buildings in Downtown Fort Scott this past weekend. If it weren't for the police, sheriff, fire (professional and volunteer), EMT, Red Cross, Public Works, City and County Officials, countless volunteers, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, Laura Hyer, National Guard as well as the other local, state and federal officials who rushed to our aid, the fire would surely have been much worse. Your time, dedication, effort and bravery are a testament to your training and care for your fellow man. Thank you also to those persons who provided the emergency workers with food and drink. Your generosity is overwhelming. Fort Scott has been bruised, but we will heal and be stronger than ever. Sincerely, The Bourbon County Commissioners
